About the role

We are looking for an experienced software engineer with an interest in data engineering to join the development team at Oracle Labs in Brisbane. The Oracle Labs mission is to identify, explore, and transfer new technologies that have the potential to substantially improve Oracle's business. As a software engineer, you will work alongside senior engineers in the Oracle Labs team on software development tasks in the OSInt project. OSInt is a big data analytics project that gathers information about security vulnerabilities in libraries and transforms that into actionable security intelligence for end users. You will be collaborating with the research and development engineers based in Brisbane, Australia as well as across time zones with development organisations at worldwide Oracle locations for delivering bleeding edge functionality which secures software that runs in the Oracle Cloud. This role is based in Brisbane; however, we are open to exceptional candidates from other locations in similar time zones.

What will you bring to the job?

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related disciplines
• Solid conceptual knowledge (e.g., data structures, programming languages design, distributed systems etc) and practical skills for writing efficient code
• 5+ years of programming experience of which 2-3 years or more is in Java programming
• Good understanding of Java application build and dependencies management using Maven tools
• Basic understanding of Python programming
• Passion for software development and problem solving, along with a can-do attitude for solving technical challenges
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently where required
• Strong analytical skills combined with good communication skills and fluent English
• Eligibility to work in Australia without sponsorship is essential

• Understanding and appreciation of program analysis and software application security
• Experience in designing and implementing data pipelines and knowledge of data partitioning techniques
• Experience or knowledge of pipeline orchestration using Airflow, Jenkins or similar frameworks
• Experience of data storage and retrieval using Apache Hive, object store and NoSQL databases
• Scala programming experience is an advantage
• Experience with various Web Services architectures would be beneficial

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
