Job Purpose & Responsibilities
The segment specialist role is part of the High Heat business BU in the Specialties SBU. The SBU strategy includes a strong focus on aggressively growing top and bottom line in existing and new segments within the next 5 years, largely thru new high growth and high margin market segment entries, combined with A significant portion of the HHB growth agenda will be delivered thru new segment identification and the development of the appropriate product positioning for aggressive target build, specifications and closes in key HHB-specific growth segments. In line with a continuing transformation towards externally-driven, market-focused strategy development and positioning, the HH Business unit is increasing its focus on the key segments fueling future growth of differentiated HHB product lines.

The Specialist – HHB Segment is a member of the regional new business development/Specifications team within the High Heat Business. The role has overall responsibility for leading best practices in market and competitive intelligence regionally, providing inputs into segmentation/sub-segmentation and development or execution of an aligned S.A.V.E. (4P) segment strategy supporting anticipated segment revenue and gross margin growth. The role requires an in-depth dive and understanding of regional focus market segment dynamics, macro and micro trends, customer unmet needs in order to contribute to the development and develop of differentiated application-centric value propositions and to drive the execution of aligned MGAP/MGPP roadmaps and related set of tactics within the incumbent job holder’s region. The job incumbent works closely with global segment manager(s) and other key regional business mgt, T&I, GaPT and other stakeholders to drive (with shared accountability) short term revenue and gross/operating margin growth within the next 3 yrs. He/She provides insights , support and recommendations to New Business Development (Specification hunters) regional organizations to drive effective and impactful results in target building/closing and related say-do/hit-rate. He/She fine-tunes and localizes an effective marketing communications plan in line with overall global focus segment strategy and influences other parts of the organization to create and deliver prioritized in-application value and benefits content and messaging/positioning.

While the relative distribution of time between THINK, FEEL and DO components of marketing may vary in given periods of time, generally speaking, the role involves the following:

FEEL: Market dynamics, unmet needs and Industry Trends:
  • Personally gather information regionally directly from the ecosystem/field and provide inputs/influence the development of a short, mid and/or long-term strategic revenue and profit growth plan aligned to the BU 5 yr plans, with a specici focus on 1-3 yr revenue and gross margin growth
  • Market intelligence on competition, needs & trends from primary, secondary research services with a strong focus on direct interaction with market and value chain players.
  • Understand regional industry regulations and how they can create opportunities or threats for existing or new business in the segments. Collect voice-of-customer or voice-of-market inputs from NBD, commercial organizations, through joint account/OEM visits or trade events/associations.
  • Evaluate and document market share analysis on a competitive basis to keep abreast of the competitive market situation within the focus segments.
  • Analyze and document value chain dynamics and profile of key inlfuencers/players
  • Analyze value-in-use of solutions in target applications and understand buying criteria and key success factors for specialty materials or solutions positioning.
  • Gather early customer feedback from MVP or initial launch
  • Contributes to the development and continuously test and revisit hypothesis to validate the reality of the segment potential, value proposition and ability to win.
  • Identify new focus market segment opportunities for SABIC’s High Heat Business
  • Identify and propose new segment adds to the focus segment lists to consider for further prioritization

THINK: Strategy Development:
  • Contribute to the development and execution of a multi-generation MGAP/MGPP roadmap, S.A.V.E. (4P) strategy and segment-centric NPI portfolio (if such portfolio is needed to deliver success)
  • Customize strategy the execution roadmap to the regional needs/specifics
  • Transform broad customer needs understanding into a clearly articulated set of technical and non-technical needs/requirements to develop a Unique Selling Proposal, working with global segment mgt, T&I and/or GaPT counterparts.

DO: Market Development and Program Execution:
  • Work with regional New business Development or other customer-facing teams to target the right value chain players, position differentiated solutions in target segment applications and accelerate impactful closing and STNC$ generation in focus segments
  • Develop well-articulated and substantiated translation packages to support product introductions and/or repositioning within the segment/applications, working with T&I, BMs and commercial counterparts/stakeholders. Gather feedback and adjust for success.
  • Jointly accountable for delivering revenue and gross margin growth in line with “Say”target.
  • Ensure effective interaction and communication across functions/poles thru exchange with counterparts in other regions
  • Continiously prioritize programs/applications or opportunities to translate to maximize short-mid term return 1-3 yrs and share accountability with regional NBD leader on target BUILD/STNC$ for focus segments within the region
Regional coordination with MARCOM to drive Market awareness via communications strategy, trade show presence, internet messaging and Press releases

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in business mgt, economics with a major in marketing.
  • Degree in Engineering and MBA
  • Minimum 10 years overall experience in plastics/materials/chemical industry, with at least 5 years in marketing
  • Profound knowledge and understanding of the target segments
  • Successful track record of developing and executing marketing tactics and delivering commercial success
