Job Description

Introduction

   

Oracle is looking for an experienced SRE or Operations engineer to join the Cloud at Customer SRE team. Oracle Cloud at Customer and Exadata Cloud at Customer are Oracle's Cloud IaaS and DBaaS deployed to customer data center. Oracle Cloud is a technology leader in public and private cloud.

Oracle Cloud at Customer hosts Oracle enterprise-grade cloud DBaaS, PaaS and IaaS services at customer datacenters, leveraging Oracle Cloud services in organizations and functions not situated for public cloud deployments. These novel services provide organizations a choice in where their data and applications reside and can provide natural path to run hybrid on-prem and public cloud infrastructure where desirable.  

Site Reliability Engineer

·         Site Reliability Engineer on the Oracle Cloud at Customer (OCC) and Exadata Cloud at Customer (ExaCC), shall work on all layers of OCC's cloud – DbaaS, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS. The SRE is responsible for reliability of fleet to provide operational support by collecting fleet metrics, monitoring, configuration management, analysis, mitigation and remediation of all components of OCC per process, operating procedures and adherence to SLA's.

·         Strong knowledge, experience, and application of Ops concepts, methodologies to provide remediation/solution is a must.

·         This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, strong customer service focus, and ability to work in a team as well as independently, ability to learn on the fly, ability to follow procedures, and ability to suggest improvements to existing procedures as appropriate

·         Tooling: Existing Tools, utilities shall be leveraged to provide solution to benefit cloud fleet reliability.

·         Develop automation or scripts in shell, python to provide solution wherever appropriate like gathering metrics in fleet, monitoring, analysis, mitigation or remediation to issues/defects.

·         Devops, strong knowledge & experience in developing & deploying Ansible playbooks providing solutions to wider systems.

·         Strong Linux (Oracle Linux, RedHat Linux) administration skills is a must.

Certifications

  • Linux Administration, Oracle DBA, Network Administration certification is a plus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in cloud/systems SRE or operations for large scale environments.

Deliverables

Candidate will be responsible for conducting cloud operations and Linux systems management for OCC and ExaCC cloud control-plane. The candidate will also be responsible for interacting with customer counterparts on a regular basis and serving as the technology expert on both Oracle and customer’s behalf. Candidate is expected to collaborate with worldwide peers so candidate must be able to excel independently in a minimally supervised capacity where needed.

This position requires participation in a 24x7 schedule that requires working on either Saturday or Sunday, in addition to on-rotation, on-call overnight hours duties.

Dress Code

There is no formal dress code for this position, however the candidate will be required to follow customer dress codes if required.

Travel

Travel to local customer datacenter is required. 

As a member of the Support organization, your focus is to deliver post-sales support and solutions to the Oracle customer base while serving as an advocate for customer needs. This involves resolving post-sales non-technical customer inquiries via phone and electronic means, as well as, technical questions regarding the use of and troubleshooting for our Electronic Support Services. A primary point of contact for customers, you are responsible for facilitating customer relationships with Support and providing advice and assistance to internal Oracle employees on diverse customer situations and escalated issues.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will interface with the customer*s IT staff on a regular basis. Either at the client*s site or from a remote location, you will be responsible for resolution of moderately complex technical problems related to the installation, recommended maintenance and use and repair/workarounds for Oracle products. You should be highly experienced in some Oracle products and several platforms that are being supported. You will be expected to work with only general guidance from management while advising management on progress/status.

Job duties are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. May have project lead role. Because of substantial customer interfacing, a demonstrated ability to work with customers on an independent basis with exceptional communication skills, while consistently achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction is essential. A Bachelor*s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience is preferred with five years related experience. Experience with Oracle*s core products, applications, and tools is important.
