UX Designer

Job Description

Knock, knock!

Design the future of coding with us.

Join our Prague-based team of 5 experienced designers who work on Oracle Visual Builder Studio (VBS), the dev-ops platform and low-code integrated development environment (IDE).

The product is a class-leading cloud tool that allows software engineers and business users to create or customize web and mobile apps. It supports the entire workflow from the setup (git, integrations, build pipelines...) to building the app UI with the award-winning Redwood Design System components (see https://tinyurl.com/oracle-redwood). Low-code IDE means it's largely GUI and WYSIWYG focused, but you can switch to code when needed.

With us, you’ll have a chance to leave your mark in a major design overhaul of a Silicon Valley giant — VBS is internally used to build product experiences of many of the other Oracle teams spread around the globe. Our work has a remarkable impact across the entire company, and also among all the Oracle customers who use it individually.

It may sound cheesy, but we believe this is not an opportunity you get every day, and we are ready to convince you about that ????.

What will be your job like?

You’ll work closely with the development and product management teams to design interfaces and experiences that streamline the work of software engineering teams and customers who want to customize VBS-built SaaS apps.

You’ll cooperate with fellow designers on varied cross-feature projects. Some of the past examples were re-thinking of the navigation between dev-ops and IDE, exploration of event action diagram alternatives, or enhancements of Redwood Design System for high-productivity apps.

The team vibe is rather startup-like where everyone believes in the product and pushes it forward — even our developers are UX advocates. As a matter of course, the product is designed and developed in dual-track agile and released continuously. We all love to create and ship, not just talk about it :).

What makes you a good fit?

→ Eager to learn. We value a curious personality with analytical skills that come in handy in the early sprints to understand the problem, a cooperative personality to work well in a team, and openness to receive and give feedback during the design iterations. After some time, we expect you to grow to lead your assigned feature design work more independently.

→ Compelling communicator. You’ll exercise your English daily with many of the US and UK-based stakeholders. You’ll have to communicate across disciplines, not only with designers, but also with researchers, product managers, and software engineers.

→ Craftsman. You’ll be building complex interfaces using a large design system, and proven ability to work efficiently with modern design tools such as Figma or Sketch is a must (we  Figma).

→ Interested in software engineering. You can be a geek or nerd (or not), either way, it’s a HUGE plus if you’d understand our users who are mostly software engineers, and be able to think like one.

→ Not afraid of research. Research is not our core responsibility, but we take an active part in planning and executing research from time to time.
