Job Description

Summary:

Want to re-imagine the future of work? Want to join a small design team that operates as an ‘internal start-up’ with all the resources and relevance of a Fortune 100 company? That's exactly what the Oracle Application Labs is all about, and we want you to join us to help us build the next generation of digital products.

Oracle Applications Labs (OAL) runs the Oracle software that runs Oracle. OAL is responsible for designing, implementing, running, and improving nearly all of Oracle's Enterprise Applications: CRM, HCM, ERP/Financials, Cloud, you name it. We use Oracle's own real-life business requirements as a "test bed" for innovation. We often race out ahead of standard product and build extensions or custom applications to meet the needs of our 100,000-employee company. Once proven, our ideas and innovations quickly find their way back into core product.

We also ensure that Oracle is always Oracle’s best reference for our enterprise applications.

Responsibilities:

The UX Designer will work closely with global engineering teams to define and deliver elegant solutions to business problems. You will be working on different projects at a time, with a wide variety of complexity and duration. Sometimes you will work on an extension to existing functionality, other times you will be working on new products.

Specifically, the UX Designer will:

  • Own a significant portion of the application user experience of one or a few products. You will dive deep and sometimes even act as a product manager.
  • Work closely with project stakeholders and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure that requirements are translated into highly usable and compelling designs.
  • Work directly with our internal end users, where appropriate, to understand their tasks and ensure we are building the right solution for the right problem! This means going out to our users, observe them and come back with insights that will help shape the product.
  • Rapidly iterate to validate ideas with end users and peers.
  • Create deliverables that communicate design intent to both business owners and engineering teams. Typical deliverables are user flows, wireframes, mock-ups, interactive prototypes and visual designs.

The UX Designer must be able to:

  • Create positive working relationships with people of varied disciplines.
  • Move with ease between the different cultures of business and technology.
  • Attend to details while managing tasks appropriately with larger goals in mind.
  • Work independently and with teams of varying size, often with people in remote locations in different time zones.
  • Guide the cross-functional team and take on complex UX project tasks across multiple projects.
  • Advocate strongly for their ideas and designs.
  • Switch effortlessly between various UX disciplines: user research, interaction design and visual design. In most projects, the interaction design part will have the strongest emphasis so ideally you would be “T-shaped”.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work on different levels of abstraction, from designing a complex user journey to detailing a page component.
  • A portfolio demonstrating the ability to develop compelling user interface concepts, flows, prototypes, mock-ups and detailed visual design comps.
  • Strong working knowledge of the common tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-tasking environment and react quickly to shifting priorities.
  • The desire to work on complex enterprise software as opposed to consumer apps or websites.
  • Self-motivated & pro-active attitude. You will be chasing project teams to deliver the best user experience, even if not explicitly asked for.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in interaction design, industrial design, HCI or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in English.
  • Some flexibility in working hours is required for conference calls spanning three continents.
  • Some travel is required to HQ in California and other Oracle offices for user research or meetings.

Desirable:

  • Experience designing mobile and responsive applications.
  • Experience in enterprise application design e.g. financials, ERP, HCM, CRM.
  • Experience in field studies, usability tests, expert reviews, surveys, and other user centered design methodologies.
  • Strong visual design skills.

Benefits:

In addition to a competitive salary and excellent working environment, Oracle offers a generous benefits package. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a role with one of the world’s leading and most impactful companies.

Responsible for creating, evaluating and modifying prototypes to support evolving hardware and software application development.

As a member of the User Experience team, you will develop and apply software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical problems. Provide product usability, evaluation and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response and conversational user interaction. May assist in developing design concept and implementation, providing input on user design considerations. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Typically seven years of software engineering or related experience needed.
