Job Description

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is seeking a Data Center Regional Consulting Engineer that will partner with Oracle management, Oracle Operations team and COLO leadership for our leased colocation facilities in Europe.  If you are familiar with how the technology industry has evolved in the last decade, you will know that everybody’s cloud has to live somewhere.  In 2021, Oracle is a leader in every layer of the cloud; Iaas, PaaS, SaaS as well as hosting our own corporate infrastructure.  Our European Cloud Data Centers are critical assets and we are seeking a local engineer with expertise in change management, site selection, administrating and performing maintenance in mission critical environments.  If you have exceptional attention to detail, experience leading an engineering team, superior technical expertise, and a desire to grow and develop your management skills within a challenging and complex environment, we are looking for you!

 

TITLE DEFINITION

This individual will be located in the Frankfurt area and report to the Data Center Engineering Operations EMEA Manager, and will be responsible for the engineering management of colocation facilities located across Europe.  The engineer will coordinate with colocation service providers to ensure the continuous availability of the power and cooling in the data center.  Service catalog items under the cognizance of this engineer include: new site evaluations, change management, event support, monthly business review, space utilization, capacity planning, efficiency upgrades, and general engineering support. Engineers are to be a role model of OCI values.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:          

  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineer.
  • Prefer but not required- Professional Engineer Certification such as Chartered Eng. or equivalent
  • At least 10 years of experience in data center engineering operations
  • Fluent in English
  • Prefer bilingual in German

 

REQUIREMENTS

Managerial

  • Ensure completion of service catalog items in accordance with Oracle defined procedures.
  • Ensure data center operations and maintenance activities occur in a safe manner.
  • Ensure data center colocation equipment is operated per procedure to maintain maximum uptime

 

Technical/Functional

  • Read and utilize electrical schematics and mechanical diagrams
  • Evaluate and review facilities during site selection activities for conformance to Oracle engineering requirements
  • Analyze energy efficiency improvement efforts at sites
  • Review and approve MOPs and SOPs from the colocation provider for accuracy, safety, and to assess potential impact
  • Ensure Oracle change management policies are adhered to by the colocation provider
  • Oversee installation of electrical and cooling infrastructure in support of new racks

 

Administrative

  • Review reports submitted by service providers for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide reports on key performance indicators pertaining to space, power, and availability
  • Create Oracle change management tickets for sites in region
  • Ensure site rack data is up to date

 

Compliance

  • Obtain required approvals from Oracle change management to conduct work within the data center
  • Observe Oracle Cloud Infrastructure business courtesy guidelines as well as supplier guidelines
  • Observe Oracle Cloud Infrastructure EH&S guidelines
  • Complete required periodic training
  • Support LOB business process audits

 

Communications/Customer Relationships

  • Liaise with Colocation Providers and build a strong working relationship
  • Represent Oracle in Monthly Business Review colocation meetings.
  • Provide engineering consultation to Data Center Operations teams during maintenance activities and incidents

Manage the development and implementation process of a specific company product involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing products. Plan and direct schedules and monitor budget/spending. Monitor the project from initiation through delivery. Organize the interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget constraints. Assign and monitor work of systems analysis and program staff, providing technical support and direction.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Seven years of project management, product design or related experience preferred.
